Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair reduction is a procedure that uses a laser to remove unwanted hair from various parts of the body, such as the face, legs, arms, underarms, and bikini area. The laser emits a beam of light that is absorbed by the melanin, or pigment, in the hair follicles. This heat destroys the follicle and prevents future hair growth. This can result in less time spent shaving or waxing, which can save time and money in the long run. It can also reduce the occurrence of ingrown hairs and razor burn, which can be painful and unsightly.

Prior to the treatment, it is important to avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for several weeks to prevent damage to the skin. Please refrain from waxing, tweezing, threading, plucking or wiherwise removing the hair by the follicle 3-4 weeks before treatments. Shaving or trimming hair is perfectly fine to help maintain unwanted hair growth. It is also necessary to shave the area to be treated the day before the procedure to allow the laser to penetrate the hair follicles more effectively. The treatment area should also be free of any makeup, lotions, creams and artificial tanners.

After the treatment, the treated area may be red, rashy or slightly swollen, but this usually subsides within a few hours. Calming creams can be applied to the skin in the clinic to minimize any discomfort or rash that might develop. It is important to avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen to protect the treated area, as the skin may be more sensitive to UV rays. Over the next few weeks, the hair in the treated area will fall out and the skin will become smoother.

While laser hair reduction can be effective for most people, it is important to note that results can vary depending on factors such as skin and hair type, the number of treatments received, and the area being treated. A series of 6-9 treatments is usually recommended for best results.
